Brunswick, Ohio — The Brunswick High School Men's Soccer Team and North Ridgeville battled to a hard fought 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon at Brunswick Auto Mart Stadium, a result that moves the Blue Devils to 3-3-5 on the season and continues a rivalry that has tightened in recent years. North Ridgeville, ranked 16th in Division II and now 7-1-2, came out with intensity and struck early.

Just 1:32 into the match, Gabe Kokai drove a skipping shot toward goal off a direct free kick. Senior goalkeeper Artur Vasylkevych made the initial save, but the wet turf created a difficult rebound, and Gio Rico reacted quickest, finishing the loose ball to give the Rangers the early lead.

Brunswick steadied themselves and soon found their rhythm. Freshman phenom Anthony Paul delivered a moment of brilliance to level the match. Off a deep throw in on the right flank, North Ridgeville made the initial headed clearance, but Paul gathered the loose ball, skipped past a defender, and unleashed a rocket from 21 yards that gave goalkeeper Micah Braun no chance. The strike lifted the Blue Devils and sent the teams into halftime tied 1-1.

Brunswick carried more energy into the second half and controlled long stretches of play, creating the better chances but unable to find the winning touch. Vasylkevych finished with three saves, bringing his season total to 44, while Braun recorded one save for North Ridgeville.

Senior Cooper McIntosh earned Man of the Match honors, entering midway through the first half and immediately injecting urgency, pressure, and tempo into the Brunswick midfield. His impact changed the tone of the match and helped stabilize the group after the early setback.

After the match, Coach Dotson praised his senior midfielder. “That’s what senior leaders do. They stay ready, lead by example, and show up when we need them most. Super proud of him, we really needed that from him today.”

He also reflected on the team’s overall performance:

“I’m proud of the response, disappointed in the start obviously. We faced a fair amount of adversity with injuries to key players, and the team responded with a no excuse, next man up mentality to fight their way back against a quality side.”

Brunswick continues to own the historical series between the programs 9-4-4, though recent seasons have produced tight, competitive matches.

The Blue Devils next play on Tuesday, traveling to face first place Shaker Heights in Greater Cleveland Conference action. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.
