Senior Night Celebration Ends with 4-0 Brunswick Victory over Euclid
Brunswick, Ohio – On a night dedicated to honoring a senior class that has meant a great deal to the Brunswick soccer program, the Blue Devils closed out their home GCC slate with a well-deserved 4-0 victory over Euclid on Senior Night.
Brunswick celebrated Senior Night with a 4-0 victory over Euclid on Tuesday evening at Brunswick Auto Mart Stadium, completing its Greater Cleveland Conference schedule with a 5-1-1 league record and finishing tied with Strongsville for second place in the final GCC standings.
The Blue Devils improved to 6-4-6 overall, while Euclid fell to 3-12-0 on the season.
Before kickoff, Brunswick recognized an outstanding senior class consisting of defenders Ethan Keller and Josh Eidenmiller; defender and captain Brayden Oleksiw; forwards Logan Evans, Russell Bickley, and Levi Eidenmiller; midfielders Cooper McIntosh, Alex Zoltowski, and Collin Perlatti; defender and captain Evan Denker; and goalkeeper Artur Vasylkevych.
Head Coach Ben Dotson reflected on the group following the match.
“This is a special class,” Dotson said. “I’m super proud to watch this group grow and develop. The work they have done off the field through youth games, community service and in the classroom is every bit as important as their work on it. They have represented Brunswick High School the right way and have left this program in a better place than they found it.”
The Blue Devils gave their seniors plenty to celebrate.
Brunswick broke through in the first half when senior midfielder Collin Perlatti found the back of the net off an assist from senior forward Logan Evans, sending the Blue Devils into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
The goal was especially memorable for Perlatti, as it marked the first varsity goal of his career. For his game-winning goal and strong all-around performance on Senior Night, Collin Perlatti earned Man of the Match honors.
“It's been a few tough weeks for him with an injury,” Brunswick Head Coach Ben Dotson said. “I'm super happy to see him on the score sheet. Collin has stayed committed throughout the process, continued to work, and never let the setbacks affect his approach. It was great to see that perseverance rewarded tonight.”
Brunswick continued to control play after the break and added three more goals in the second half.
Senior midfielder Alex Zoltowski doubled the advantage, finishing a setup from senior forward Russell Bickley for his first varsity goal. Moments later, senior defender Ethan Keller joined the celebration, scoring the first varsity goal of his career after connecting on a pass from fellow senior defender Josh Eidenmiller. Zoltowski's and Keller's goals were the first of their varsity careers.
The scoring was capped by senior captain Evan Denker, who unleashed a spectacular strike from approximately 25 yards out to make it 4-0 and put the finishing touches on the Senior Night victory.
Brunswick controlled the match throughout, forcing Euclid goalkeeper David Boyd into a busy evening. Boyd turned away 15 shots and helped keep the final score from growing even larger.
At the other end, senior goalkeeper Artur Vasylkevych secured the clean sheet. The Blue Devils were so dominant defensively that Vasylkevych was not required to make a save.
Elsewhere in the conference, Shaker Heights defeated Cleveland Heights to secure the GCC championship. Brunswick's 5-1-1 conference record left the Blue Devils tied with Strongsville for second place in the final league table, capping another successful conference campaign.
The Blue Devils will now turn their attention to one final regular-season test before tournament play begins.
Brunswick travels to face four-time state champion North Olmsted on Tuesday for its regular-season finale. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at North Olmsted High School.
