Brunswick, Ohio -- On a night where the heat index surged toward 100 degrees at Brunswick Auto Mart Stadium, the Brunswick High School Men's soccer team showed toughness, resilience, and never-ending resolve. In the GCC’s featured Match Day One contest, Brunswick battled through the extreme conditions and a determined Mentor side to earn a gritty 1–0 victory, improving to 2–0–3 overall and 1–0 in the Greater Cleveland Conference. Mentor fell to 1–6 overall and 0–1 in GCC play.
The decisive moment came at the 65:32 mark of the second half when senior forward Levi Eidenmiller buried the lone goal of the match. After two Brunswick shots were blocked in a chaotic goal-mouth scramble, Eidenmiller reacted first, driving the loose ball into the net for an unassisted finish that perfectly matched the scrappy nature of the game.
Brunswick controlled much of the attacking play, outshooting Mentor 13–5, including a 4–2 advantage on goal. Senior goalkeeper Artur Vasylkevych secured his fourth consecutive clean sheet, making two saves and organizing the back line with confidence throughout the match. Mentor goalkeeper Adrian Vidovic made three saves but took the loss.
Junior captain Ryan Dick was named Man of the Match for an exceptional performance. Despite being extremely ill, he anchored Brunswick’s defensive unit with composure, communication, and relentless effort. His leadership steadied the team through a difficult first half and helped drive the second-half response that ultimately delivered the win.
After the match, Head Coach Ben Dotson praised his team’s resilience, saying, “We didn’t play our best game tonight. We lost our game plan a bit in the first half, but after some adjustments, the boys responded. They found a way. I’m super proud of this group, their gaining confidence, as winners find ways.”
Across the Greater Cleveland Conference, Strongsville defeated Cleveland Heights 9–1, Shaker Heights beat Riverside 7–0, and Euclid and Lorain’s score was not posted by the time of print. Brunswick’s victory stood as one of the night’s headline results in the new-look GCC.
Brunswick continues its conference slate next Tuesday on the road at Lorain, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 PM at George Daniel Field.
