Wadsworth, Ohio — The Brunswick High School Men’s Soccer Team earned a hard-fought 0–0 draw tonight on the road against Wadsworth in the annual I-71 Derby, played at historic Art Wright Memorial Stadium. With the result, Brunswick moves to 0-0-2, while Wadsworth sits at 1-0-1. The draw brings the all-time series to 20-10-10 in favor of the Blue Devils.

From the opening whistle, it was a proper football match — two quality teams, playing at a high level, trading chances, defending bravely, and leaving everything on the pitch. The first half featured brilliant back-and-forth play, with both sides showing composure, organization, and intensity befitting the rivalry.

Brunswick’s best chance of the night came in the second half, when senior midfielder Adam Jaber slipped through the Wadsworth back line after sharp combination play. Jaber broke free toward goal in the 61st minute, but under pressure, he was unable to get his shot on target.

Wadsworth nearly stole the match late. With 13:20 remaining, senior forward Benny Sauser found himself on a breakaway, but senior goalkeeper Artur Vasylkevych stood tall, forcing the effort high and keeping the match level. Vasylkevych delivered again in the closing seconds, parrying a driven shot from Max Hiltner wide to preserve the clean sheet.

Vasylkevych finished with five saves in the shutout. Wadsworth senior captain Kaden Taylor matched him with four saves of his own.

Head Coach Ben Dotson praised his team’s performance:

“It was a proper football match — two quality teams — and it ended honors even. Our kids played great tonight, great football. So many unsung heroes this evening.”

Dotson named senior midfielder Alex Zoltowski Man of the Match for his commanding performance:

“Alex was brilliant in the middle tonight. So proud of him. It was a coming-of-age moment that could thrust him forward to a very good season.”

Brunswick next plays Berea-Midpark on Saturday for a 7:00 PM kick-off at Roehm Athletic Conference.
