Brunswick High School Welcomes Benjamin Young as Head Rugby Coach

Brunswick High School Athletics is proud to announce the hiring of Benjamin Young as the new Head Rugby Coach for the Blue Devils. Coach Young brings a strong playing background, leadership experience, and a passion for developing student-athletes both on and off the field.

A lifelong Medina resident, Young attended Medina High School where he was a member of the rugby program and helped lead his team through back-to-back state title runs — first earning a state runner-up finish and then capturing a state championship. His success at the high-school level laid the foundation for a continued career in rugby at the collegiate level.

Young went on to attend Bowling Green State University, where he has balanced both academics and athletics while serving as the Vice President of the men’s rugby club. During his time at BGSU, he has been part of two national runner-up finishes in 15s competition and is also a two-time national placer in 7s. He has further expanded his experience internationally, competing on overseas rugby tours in both Wales and Spain — opportunities that have strengthened his understanding of the game and broadened his perspective on team culture and competition.

He is set to graduate in May from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management, bringing both academic preparation and real-world leadership experience to the Brunswick program.

Coach Young is excited to begin working with returning players while also introducing new students to the sport. His focus will center on skill development, teamwork, discipline, and building a positive culture that reflects the values of Brunswick Athletics and the Journey of a Blue Devil.
