Ellie Gonzalez-Ribble fired an even par 72 on Thursday at Tanglewood Golf Club in the OHSAA District Tournament, qualifying her to the State Tournament this weekend at Firestone Country Club in Akron
Ellie started off on hole 10, finding the fairway with a perfect drive. She took an aggressive line with her second shot and found the water. After taking a penalty stroke and a drop, she hit her fourth shot to six inches, tapping in for par and setting the tone for her afternoon.
Ellie's first birdie came on the par 4 12th hole, where she found the fairway, and hit her approach shot to four feet. She followed that birdie up with another on the par four 14th hole, where she knocked in a 10 footer.
She ran into a little trouble on hole 15, finding the water with her second shot, getting up and down from the sand for a bogey saving 6. She finished the back nine with an even par 36.
Turning to the front nine, Ellie opened with a huge up and down for par on the 1st. She almost hit the green in two on the par 5 2nd, getting up and down for birdie to get to -1. She made some great par saves on 3 and 4, and then hit a great iron shot on the par 4 fifth to 8 feet and knocked in the bird. She finished the front nine with another even par 36, clinching her spot at States.
Ellie will be the first girls golfer to represent Brunswick at the State Tournament since Kelly Moskal won the individual state title in 1996 at the Gray Course at OSU.
She will tee off on hole 10 on Firestone CC's Fazio Course on Sunday for round 1.
The Blue Devils shot 337 as a team and finished in 8th place in the event. Emma Gonzalez-Ribble shot 86, Rylee Roth shot 89, Jess Buzinski shot 90, and Bri Behrend shot 102.
