North Ridgeville, Ohio - The Brunswick High School Men's Soccer Team brought home a narrow, solid win over a 2024 OHSAA State Semifinalist, North Ridgeville, 2-0 on Saturday night. Brunswick improves to 7-1-3 on the season. North Ridgeville drops to 5-3-2.
Brunswick now owns the historical series between the schools by a 9-4-3 record.
In the first half, Brunswick used two goals midday through the first stanza to take a commanding 2-0 lead into the halftime break. The first, in the 21s minute, came from junior defender, Kaden Tibbs, who de-possessed the Rangers in their own end. As he looked up, he noticed the goalkeeper, Zac Braun out of position and clipped the ball to the far post and found side netting for the 1-0 lead. Moments later, at the 23:33 mark, Owen Beskid was played centrally by junior defender Brayden Oleksiw. The senior captain went on a run, beating three Ranger defenders, and then slotted past Braun for the 2-0 lead.
In the second half, North Ridgeville came out with good energy and made things interesting in possession, but never really threatened the Blue Devil goal, as the backline of Tibbs, Oleksiw, sophomore Ryan Dick and Tyler Bradbury and senior Isaac Steele kept the Ranger offense at bay. With good organization and timely tackles, the team went on to win 2-0.
Head Coach Ben Dotson named Steele Man of the Match. "Isaac stepped into a difficult spot tonight, as we really needed him off the bench due to two yellow cards on both of our center backs. He displayed a good veteran performance leading the backline. Beyond proud of him for his efforts..
Hyde collected four saves in the win, earning his sixth clean sheet of the season, as his season record stands at 7-1-3. Braun takes the loss making four saves.
Brunswick next plays when they get back to GCC play, as they host Shaker Heights on Wednesday. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM from Brunswick Auto Mart Stadium.
